Recently it was time for an upgrade at my place. I had owned the home for five years and nothing had been done to make it just mine. I had a smaller budget and wanted to make the most out of it. I went to Home Depot and decided to plan my attack.

For years I wanted new floors and to paint so this was my first option. When I started shopping for carpet I noticed two large left over pieces that would be perfect. When I looked at the size I found out that it would just fit. I got lucky for installation on the carpet and the carpet its self it cost under $800. This was step one in my adventure.

Two I knew it was time to paint especially since I was going to have new carpet. If I accidently spilled it was better to get on the old carpet. So I picked an off yellow for my living room and a moss green for the kitchen and I was off.

Day one I needed to get everything off of the walls and into the middle of the room to paint. I was able to get all my furniture in the middle and then start removing items from the walls. I never realized how much I had on the walls from paintings, mirrors, coat hooks, and more. Make sure to keep all the screws and nails in once place. Also a trick when you take off face plates for outlets is to screw the screws back in so you don’t have to find them later. Trust me that will save you numerous headaches.

The paint I bought had a built in primer but I was painting over a battleship grey color. This ended up taking three days to get it completely covered. Once this was done I decided to not move back the furniture but to start hanging things back up. So up went the coat hooks, mirrors, paintings and more.

Now I was stuck with a half done home until the carpet came and finally after two setbacks that came about. Once they got into the home they put my furniture on the one spot that new carpet was going down like a game of Tetris. It was amazing on how they got everything in the right spot without an issue.

Once everything was moved I left while they went to work. They were cutting carpet and moving around. The entire job of three different rooms took about four hours in total. I could see the final picture coming to light.

I decided at this time that I needed a new end table and office desk. So I went to the store and found two nice pieces to finish off my home. Once I arrived they were cleaning up.

Finally I was able to put my home back together my way. For under $1,500 I was able to have a home that felt completely new to me. Just took about 5 total work days and it was worth it.
